While most people remember the 50's as the Golden Era, there was a ton of other stuff going on as well. You had North Korea invading South Korea. Good old General McArthur in charge of the UN Forces stampeding the way. The Korean War pushing the commies back past the 38th. Major turning points in equality taking place where "separate but equal" would no longer stand. Of course you had the whole polio outbreak that spread fear everywhere until Dr. Salk stepped in with his newly created vaccine. And to top it all off, the Soviets put Sputnik into space. Major feat!

There was also some great music kicking around in the 50s ranging from: Nat "King" Cole, Laurence Welk, Elvis "The King" Presley, Harry Belafonte, Buddy Holly and more. But who do you think was the best, I know who I thought was the best.

Plus there were some major stars, sports and personalities in that era as well: Jack Kerouac, Marilyn Monroe, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Mickey Mantle to name a few.

The Larger Bowl is Numbered 444 and is a 4 Quart Size.
The Medium Bowl is Numbered 442 and is a 1 1/4 Quart Bowl.
The Smaller Bowl is Numbered 441 and is a 1 1/2 Pint Bowl.
These bowls are more rounded than the prior in both shape and size.

These mixing bowls are simply delightful when going for a more retro/vintage appeal in your kitchen. With their soft opal white and tender pink designs, Gooseberry Pyrex mixing bowls were an all-time favorite. This pattern first arrived back in the 1950's. With it's graceful design of leaves and striped berries, this is a classic for any home. Not to mention the handy pour spots that doubled as holders, these were the mixing bowls of popular homes back in the 50's and today as well.

Gooseberry Yellow Cinderella Mixing Bowls
Although the pink Gooseberry bowls were certainly more popular, these yellow and white Pyrex gooseberry cinderella bowls were certainly not far behind in popularity. From everything that I could find out about them, I believe they were only sold in sets of four originally, although single bowls can still be purchased quite frequently. They are the same size as all other quad set pyrex mixing bowls and are marked with the usual sizes #441 through #444 alternating in color from a cream colored yellow to a milky white. These were bowls you weren't afraid to get dirty in the kitchen.

Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of the Yellow/White with black gooseberries than the pink. And I think they are actually a little harder to find as everywhere I've looked I've definitely seen more of the pink/white than the yellow/white gooseberry combination.

As more and more people start collecting and using pyrex cookware, Pink Pyrex is coming to be somewhat of a classic item to start with. Who says you can't bake with something pretty in pink? But because more and more people are looking for particular pyrex items in this rather frilly color, they are getting a better harder to get a hold of. And if you're new starting out this can become a little bit frustrating.

As you begin collecting these vintage pieces, what you'll notice is that it's still a relatively inexpensive hobby to get into that can turn into an obsession. Not only that, pink mixing bowls are quite sexy in my opinion. Although they are not all that rare, they can still be quite a handful to find. But, you can usually pick them up for under twenty bucks or so with the vast majority of them coming in well under that. Besides, even if you're not collecting these little pink marvels, imagine just using them in your kitchen. Whipping up that next frothy cake batter to perfection in one of these pink bowls would simply look scrumptuous.

One of the more popular items that people try to get their hands on is the Pink Gooseberry Pyrex. These are quite stylish. The gooseberry pattern is simply some gooseberry leaves intertwined with some berries and flowers. Typically what you'll see when looking for the pink version of this is it's either on a solid white bowl with the pattern in pink, or you get the solid pink bowl with the gooseberry pattern in white. Either one is really pretty.

You can Help the Environment with Pyrex Mixing Bowls

Everyday one hears about the sorry state that the environment is in and it seems very difficult to discern what regular everyday people can do exactly. One way, perhaps, is to use of Pyrex mixing bowls.
